31 Monsters in 31 Days: The Alligator People

THE ALLIGATOR PEOPLE hit screens in 1959. Picked up by 20th Century Fox for a double bill with RETURN OF THE FLY, it’s a slight but enjoyable mad scientist romp in which Beverly Garland uses hypnotic regression to discover what happened to her missing husband. (SPOILER ALERT: He became an alligator person.) With Lon Chaney Jr. as a hook-handed Cajun, a mad scientist actually trying to help mankind for a change, and lauably kitschy alligator people makeup (by an upstart Dick Smith), it’s a well-made sci-fi programmer.
