31 Monsters in 31 Days: Brainiac

Another bad-monster favorite. Produced in Mexico as EL BARON DEL TERROR, this 1962 release got plenty of stateside attention when K. Gordon Murray distrubted it for American television (along with other Mexi-monster flicks as ROBOT VS. THE AZTEC MUMMY and THE MAN AND THE MONSTER).

This tale of a seventeenth-century sorcerer using a comet to wreak vengeance of his Inquisitors’ desendants by becoming a brain-eating, shapeshifting creature with a forked tongue(don’t ask) is fairly stiff and hampered with careless but amusing dubbing. But perhaps the film’s biggest detriment is that it features a monster that looks like this:

Sadly, had I seen this when I was six it would’ve scared the crap out of me.
