Frances Bay, 1919-2011

Character actress Frances Bay recently passed away at the age of 92. And while pretty much every obituary focuses on her role as Adam Sandler’s grandmother in HAPPY GILMORE, her resume was remarkably deep, with appearances on a number of classic television shows (CHEERS, SEINFELD, HAPPY DAYS) and such films as THE KARATE KID and THE GRIFTERS. (Trivia note: Bay shares the distinction with George Clooney of appearing in both E/R and ER.)

Bay also boasted a large number of genre credits including CRITTERS 3, IN THE MOUTH OF MADNESS, THE X-FILES, and Stuart Gordon’s version of THE PIT AND THE PENDULUM, as well as several pictures for David Lynch (BLUE VELVET, both the TWIN PEAKS series and FIRE WALK WITH ME, and WILD AT HEART).
