Halloween Tweet Spectacular

Posted in Miscellaneous, Writing with tags , , , , , , on October 31, 2011 by Scott Emerson

Inspired by the Halloween season, I spent some time last week writing holiday-appropriate haiku and other ephemera. And in case you’re not my friend on Facebook or follow me on Twitter, I thought I’d compile them in one convenient package.

#zombiehaiku My trick-or-treat bag / perfect for catching pieces / of my crumbling face

The razor blade in your apple / slices lips and gum and tongue / flooding your mouth with / the bitter taste of forgotten sin

99% of nightmares are controlled by 1% of burned-up child-killers. #OccupyElmStreet

You always hated candy corn, called them the devil’s treat. Ironic, then, that tonight I served them in your hollowed skull.

#slasherhaiku Every Halloween / Jason pouts in his bedroom / seething with envy

Bizarro B.C. at Bizarro Central

Today marks the debut of Bizarro B.C., a (semi-regular) series for Bizarro Central in which I take a look back at some of the weird and offbeat fiction that pre-dates todays’s current bizarro movement. First up is Joe R. Lansdale’s outre favorite from 1988, THE DRIVE-IN (which coincides with the wordsmith’s 60th birthday today). You can read it here.

Reader Vanessa shares her enthusiasm for THE BIG BOOK OF BIZARRO in a video testimonial. “More sex than an Amsterdam brothel, more aliens than John Carpenter’s movies, and more violence than you can wave a butcher knife at!” Watch it here.
