Women in Horror Recognition Spotlight #3–Jamie Lee Curtis

Final Girls came and went, but there was always Laurie Strode. Jamie Lee Curtis portrayed Michael Myers’ would-be victim as realistically frightened yet resourceful without dissolving into a shieking cipher awaiting rescue. Curtis parlayed HALLOWEEN’s massive success into a number of similar damsels-in-distress roles, such as THE FOG (yay!) and PROM NIGHT (meh!), on her way to mainstream stardom. Along the way she inaugurated the cinematic phenomenon of the “scream queen,” though her successors rarely possessed the same skills (or scripts).

So go ahead and ask strangers to keep a video diary of their bowel movements, Jamie Lee, we still love ya.
